After the heartbreaking loss of Paige, those who loved her dedicated themselves to honoring her memory by organizing a 5k run. Our first annual Princess Run was on May 21, 2011. With over 1,000 people in attendance, we raised over $31,000 for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital OT/PT department.
Paige loved going to OT/PT and working with her therapists. She was also fortunate to have the support of her family, friends and some excellent health coverage. Not all patients are so lucky. The Alessandro Family annually spent over $5,000 out of their pocket to ensure that Paige received the best care possible and was afforded therapies that were also fun. Paige did weekly music and horse riding therapy which were great therapeutic tools and great memories!! Unfortunately, those therapies are not covered at all by insurance despite their proven positive impact on patients.
We are all inspired by Paige to not let what we cannot do stand in the way of what we can do. And, while we cannot have Paige physically back on earth with us, we can use her spirit and strength to help other children suffering from disabilities.
We have started this non-profit foundation to provide families in need scholarship and grant opportunities for adaptive equipment and non-covered therapeutic services. We hope that Paige’s sweet and powerful story can live on in the lives the foundation touches.
